GMB ENGINEER PARTICIPATES IN SU SMART GROWTH DAY

GMB’s Director of Stormwater/Sustainable Engineering, Steve Marsh, P.E., LEED® AP, recently participated in Salisbury University’s Smart Growth Day Conference on April 28. His presentation entitled “Green Site Design: Stormwater Management Considerations” aimed to educate attendees on the importance of, and methodologies to implement, low-impact development and environmental site design techniques.

As water quality in the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays continues to decline, regulators are shifting their focus towards non-point source (NPS) pollution to achieve nutrient reduction goals. Of particular concern is the impact of urban stormwater runoff on receiving waters. In the mid-Atlantic, recent updates to stormwater regulations have prompted a change in stormwater management strategy to Environmental Site Design techniques, which focus on micro-practices to maintain existing site hydrology and minimize the release of pollutants downstream. GMB’s stormwater team, led by Mr. Marsh, has been pioneering innovative stormwater management solutions for more than a decade.

Mr. Marsh has over 16 years of experience in the field of stormwater management and holds a Bachelor and Master of Science degree from the University of Virginia in Civil Engineering with a Concentration in Hydrology / Stormwater Management. He has also completed Post-Graduate course work on the Analysis of Water Resources Systems. In 2008 he acquired his LEED® AP certification, which provides a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles.
