George, Miles & Buhr, LLC (GMB) provided structural engineering services for the design of a comfort station and performing arts stage located at The Boardwalk and Caroline Street in Ocean City, Maryland. This stage and restroom facility is designed to be sustainable and low-maintenance through the use of innovative mechanical systems and local and non-toxic materials. The solar chimneys will ventilate and de-humidify the restrooms without any mechanical systems.
The structural design included the following components:
• Concrete Foundation System (utilizing timber piles)
• Cast-in-place concrete foundation and exterior walls and interior partitions
• Steel framing for the solar chimneys and stage roof trusses
• Design of timber roof trusses and their interface with the sub-structure
